Research Library Finding Aids

This LibGuide features finding aids to help patrons, researchers, and library staff navigate various collections.

Library Map Collection

The State of Arizona Research Library Map Collection contains approximately 6,500 maps and atlases. These maps include international, national, state, county, and city maps, dating from the 1600s to the present.

The downloadable spreadsheet provides an item-level inventory of the map collection. The spreadsheet has multiple tabs:

  • Map Inventory: An inventory of every sheet map that has been processed and assigned to a shelf location. Some of the maps are digitized and available online on the Arizona Memory Project. If a map is digitized, the link is included in the spreadsheet.

  • Online Maps: An inventory of every map in the Map Inventory that has been digitized and available online in the Arizona Memory Project. Links are included.

  • Atlases: An inventory of all atlases that have been processed and assigned a shelf location.

  • Rolled Maps: An inventory of all oversized maps that are rolled up, processed, and assigned a shelf location.

  • Processing: An inventory of maps that are being processed but have not been integrated into the Maps Inventory.

If a map is not available online, patrons can make a request to digitize a map or make an appointment to visit our Reading Room to view physical maps in person. Reading Room appointments are available Monday-Friday 8:30AM-12:00PM or 1:00PM-4:30PM, excluding holidays.

Click here to make an appointment or request to have a map digitized. Please include the title(s) and call number(s) of the maps when making a request.

Note: The inventory is not a complete list of every map in the building. Some maps in the collection are unprocessed and not included in the spreadsheet.
