Despite the federal establishment of Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, which was passed by Congress and signed by President Ronald Reagan on Nov. 2, 1983, Arizona was the last state in the country to make Martin Luther King Jr Day a holiday in 1992. The holiday was passed by Proposition 300 by voters nearly nine years after the federal government.
