Arizona Maps and Place Research

This interactive map lets you explore archival maps and historical photos of railroad stations throughout Arizona. The maps are overlaid onto modern-day satellite imagery using a process called georeferencing. This feature lets you see how the same locations have changed over time.

This Story Map will let you explore historical maps of North America and see Arizona change into its modern borders over several centuries, from 1679 to 1912. Much of Arizona's modern borders were shaped and refined by war and treaty, which were significantly informed by U.S. policies of westward expansionism and Manifest Destiny.

This Arizona Story Map features various locations around the state. Each of the sites featured provides historical details about the location. Some of the locations featured have a link to the Arizona Memory Project website where individuals can connect to the digitized newspaper clipping and read details about the location from a historic news article.
