This guide is designed to support library staff in planning, preparing, and executing engaging and effective summer library programs.

Arizona Library Presenters' Showcase

Arizona Library Presenters' Showcase

The Arizona Library Presenters' Showcase is a listing of artists, educators and presenters that are interested in presenting to library audiences.

Listing within the Arizona Presenters' Showcase is not an endorsement by the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records (State Library). The State Library does not endorse individual vendors, products or services. For more information about presenters, contact the Library References provided by the presenter, found within their showcase listing.

Partnerships

State Park Passes

Through a collaboration between Arizona State Parks and Trails and the State Library, local libraries can offer day-use passes as an award for participating in summer library programs. These passes encourage Arizona’s children to read, learn and then visit our state parks to experience all the great outdoor recreation adventures available.

Each year, libraries place orders for state park passes as part of their summer supply order. Typically, the designated contact at each library receives the order form with the necessary information in October, for the upcoming summer season.

There are more than 30 state parks to visit in Arizona, all across the state. We have great lakes, rivers, hiking trails, boating, fishing, and cool places to explore with your family and friends! Outdoor experiences can provide an opportunity to explore, discover and learn about the natural world, as well as be active, learn about the environment, see native plants and animals, test physical limits and get messy.

Libraries and Summer Food

Libraries and the Summer Food Service Program

Does your library serve summer meals or snacks, or are you interested in being a meal site or supporting other meal sites in your area? Many libraries around the USA participate in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP, now branded as SUN Meals), a USDA-funded program that provides free meals and snacks to children ages 0-18 in communities with high levels of need.

For further information, No Kid Hungry’s Center for Best Practices offers a Summer and Afterschool Meals resource just for libraries. This webpage houses information for libraries nationwide on SFSP and the Child and Adult Care Food Program At-Risk Afterschool Meal Program (CACFP At-Risk, or Afterschool Meals). Planning and implementation resources are also available, along with training opportunities.

The No Kid Hungry resource aligns with, and links to, the Collaborative Summer Library Program’s Libraries & Summer Food how-to guide, which is a thorough, clear, step-by-step guide for libraries wishing to participate in or support summer meals.

Essential Toolkits and Resources for Library Programming

Learning Beyond: 21st Century Summer and Out-Of-School Time Toolkit, a 2022 publication from ALSC, supports the integration of equity-building and co-design into library program planning. It also considers effective evaluation and the role of reflection.
