Arizona Memory Project Research Guide

A guide for how to use the Arizona Memory Project (AMP) for research and how local institutions can contribute content to AMP.

Optical Character Recognition

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is a technology applied to digital items that allow searches to look for keywords within the item, not just the metadata.

Most items in the following formats are OCR'd on AMP:

  • Book
  • City Directory
  • Document
  • Image
  • Map
  • Newspaper
  • Periodical
  • Transcript
  • Yearbook

Items formatted as Document- Handwritten|Scan are not OCR'd because the OCR technology was unable to accurately scan the text due to poor quality.
