Arizona Memory Project Research Guide

A guide for how to use the Arizona Memory Project (AMP) for research and how local institutions can contribute content to AMP.

Asset Items and Information Items

Asset Item and Information Item are the core infrastructure of how AMP content is organized. Nearly all content on AMP is organized into collections, but Asset Item and Information Item define how items are ingested to AMP, how they display, how users interact with them, and which metadata template is applied.

Collectively, Asset Item and Information Item are called Format on AMP.

Asset Items

An Asset Item is an individual item that users can view and interact with. The terms asset, file, and item can all be used interchangeably.

The Asset Item is identifiable by looking at the Format located to the top-left of an item.

AMP has 13 Asset Items:

  • Audio
  • Book
  • City Directory
  • Document
  • Document Handwritten|Scan
  • Image
  • Map
  • Newspaper
  • Object
  • Periodical
  • Transcript
  • Video
  • Yearbook

Information Items

An Information Item is a hub that groups related content on a single landing page.

Any item formatted as an Asset Item can be linked to an Information Item. For example, a Map (Item Type) can be linked to a Place (Information Type).

An Information Item can also be linked to any other Information Item. For example, an Agency (Information Type) can be linked to a Topic (Information Type).

The Information Item is identifiable by looking at the Format located to the top-left of an item.

AMP has 11 Information Items:

  • Agency
  • Collection
  • Contributor
  • Event
  • Localized Content
  • Oral History
  • Person
  • Place
  • Publication Set
